May 2009: Proton recently relocated a Senior Project Manager to Cairns in far North Queensland to help implement a Foster Program for indigenous children who will be relocating from remote indigenous communities. The project is being run out of Djarragun College just outside of Cairns. Djarragun College is a unique and outstanding educational institution focussed on the educational and vocational needs of indigenous youth in Far North Queensland, and is regarded as a lighthouse in indigenous education in Australia.

This pro-bono engagement by Proton came about after a series of visits by Proton's Senior Partner, Peter Spasojevic. Peter was inspired by the vision and committment of the school’s inspirational principal, Jean Illingworth, and made an immediate commitment to help the college get this important project up and running. 

The project is a major undertaking by any measure. Djarragun College is working to establish a new foster centre for the children who are relocating from a number of remote communities on Cape York. The new centre will be built on land adjoining the current campus in Cairns, and will accommodate up to 50 children. Getting this centre up and running will be a major undertaking involving land acquisition, development, and extensive change to the staffing and operational processes of the college. With College staff focussed on the student’s education and personal development needs, project management is not a core skill set.

Proton Projects is contributing skills and know-how to this project and is committed helping Djarragun College with it's ongoing project development needs.
